4 Waters – Deep Implicancy
Regi: Arjuna Neuman & Denise Ferreira da Silva. USA/Storbritannia 2019. DCP, 31 min.

Through a series of experimental migrations and elemental crossings we begin to question the form of the universal human, its calcified and exceptional origins, and in particular, its ethical program. Wandering and wondering through a transformative figuring of justice, we ask, what if our image of the world recalled phase instead of measure? And what becomes of ethics if we let go of value?

Business as usual: a hostile environment
Regi: Alberta Whittle. Storbritannia 2021. DCP, 36 min.

Barbadian-Scottish artist Alberta Whittle presents a new working iteration of her film, Business as usual: a hostile environment (2020). Originally an exploration of the Windrush scandal, the film has been updated, to include ‘the horrors of Covid-19 overshadowing the everyday’. But while Covid-19 may be an exceptional crisis, the inequalities it has exposed are not. In her film, Whittle identifies the racial politics of the pandemic – exemplified by the disproportionate number of BAME deaths – and places it in a longer lineage of the UK’s history.

Contoured Thoughts
Regi: Evan Ifekoya. Storbritannia/Island 2019. DCP, 5 min.

Contoured Thoughts is a meditation on desire, recovery and the rituals of communion. A guide and conspirator alike, Ifekoya takes the viewer to another realm where time all but stands still. Regenerated by the blackness of water and land, the artist offers a moment to share the intimate, the erotic and the otherworldly.

Acoustic Ocean
Regi: Ursula Biemann. Sveits 2018. DCP, 18 min.

Set in the Lofoten Islands, Acoustic Ocean examines the planet’s changing climate and its global ecological impact. The film explores the sonic ecology of marine life while proposing alternative models for human existence in the natural world.

Filmene presenteres in samarbeid med Bergen Kunsthall. Visningen er en av flere arrangementer og off-site verk som er en del av utstillingen “The Ocean” på Bergen Kunsthall. Utstillingen kan besøkes fra 28. august til 31. oktober 2021.
